LCM to SCM Conversion Tables Torpedo Swimtalk
Quick reference multipliers to convert race times between Long Course (50m) and Short Course (25m).
What this page is
These tables provide **flat percentage** conversion factors by distance so you can compare swims across pool lengths without a calculator. Apply the multipliers to your race time to convert between **LCM** and **SCM**.
LCM → SCM:
time × factor • SCM → LCM: time × factor
Note: Factors are distance-based and the same for all strokes. SCM is faster than LCM, with a larger difference at longer events.
LCM → SCM
Multiply your LCM time by the factor below to get the SCM estimate.
| Distance | % faster (SCM) | Factor (×) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 m | 1.5% | 0.985 |
| 100 m | 2.0% | 0.980 |
| 200 m | 2.5% | 0.975 |
| 400 m | 3.0% | 0.970 |
| 800 m | 3.5% | 0.965 |
| 1500 m | 4.0% | 0.960 |
Example: 100 m Back in LCM 1:21.40 → SCM ≈ 1:21.40 × 0.980 ≈ 1:19.97.
SCM → LCM
Multiply your SCM time by the factor below to get the LCM estimate.
| Distance | % slower (LCM) | Factor (×) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 m | +1.5% | 1.015 |
| 100 m | +2.0% | 1.020 |
| 200 m | +2.5% | 1.025 |
| 400 m | +3.0% | 1.031 |
| 800 m | +3.5% | 1.036 |
| 1500 m | +4.0% | 1.042 |
Example: 400 m Free in SCM 4:50.00 → LCM ≈ 4:50.00 × 1.031 ≈ 4:59.3.
FAQ
Do these apply to all strokes? Yes — these flat factors are distance-based for simple comparisons.
Why is SCM faster? More turns in a 25m pool mean more speed off walls and underwater, especially as the distance increases.
